A Young Man’s Irresponsible and Hazardous Drinking Leads To a DUI, Time In The City Jail, and Then to a Life Changing Event Due to an Old Relationship
Jesse had an exceedingly hard time maintaining a job. Indeed, due to his laziness and lack of incentive, he was jobless far more frequently than he was in work. And when he did get a job, he had an exceedingly difficult time getting to work on time, he characteristically received less than optimal performance assessments, and he called off sick so consistently that he usually got fired three or four weeks after he started working. Obviously, one of the effects of Jesse’s appalling employment track record was the fact that he was virtually broke on a day-to-day basis.
Despite Jesse’s shameful work track record and financial laxity, then again, one way or another he managed to drink heavily from day-to-day.
So it came as no big shock when Jesse got arrested for a second DWI. When he went to court, the magistrate told Jesse that his alcohol-related actions was awful and, as a consequence, he was going to sentence Jesse to spend ten months in the local jail.
Time In The City Jail To Reflect On The Damaging Effects of Irresponsible and Hazardous Drinking
During his time behind bars, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the harmful effects of hazardous and excessive drinking, and he was required to get alcohol therapy. The magistrate highlighted the fact that unless Jesse gets professional alcohol rehab and discovers how to live a life of sobriety, he will most likely be spending a considerable amount of time imprisoned.
Jesse said that he comprehended what the judge was saying but he still asserted that placement in the municipal jail was not the correct sentence. The magistrate saw things from an entirely different vantage point and declared that it was his obligation to keep alcohol dependent people off the streets who drink and drive and who get arrested for a DWI. Although Jesse understood that he drank in an abusive and excessive manner, he never believed that he was a person who was dependent on alcohol. So it was quite a surprise when Jesse started suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms nearly six-and-a-half hours after getting locked up in the local jail.
To treat his symptoms of alcohol withdrawal in a safe and sound manner, Jesse was taken by ambulance to an alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detoxification and then returned to the local jail. While locked up in the city jail Jesse received alcohol rehab but because he received this treatment as something that was mandated for him, he failed to take ownership of his thoughtless drinking.
When his time in jail was completed, the magistrate without uncertainty announced to Jesse that he would be under stringent observation and would be mandated to take random urine alcohol tests.
Jessie’s Hazardous Drinking Stops Him From Living in an Accountable and Mature Manner
After hearing how Jesse neglected to take ownership of his drinking problem and how he halfheartedly followed the treatment code of behavior while in the municipal jail, the magistrate knew that it was essentially a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about his irresponsible drinking behavior. As the magistrate thought about Jesse’s situation, he couldn’t help but think about how some people never figure things out and learn how to live in an effective and productive manner.
An Old Relationship Inspires and Motivates Jesse to Completely Alter His Life
But something happened in Jesse’s life that thoroughly changed his unhealthy lifestyle. One day when he was at the store buying chewing tobacco, he met Alice, a girl he hadn’t seen since the fifth grade. After exchanging pleasantries, Alice candidly told Jesse that due to her drug and alcohol dependency she was lucky to be alive.
When Jesse asked her what happened that changed her life so totally, she explained to Jesse that when her cousin Janice passed away from a drug overdose, this made her see the destructive and harmful life she had been living.
She stressed the point that the first thing she did after her cousin’s funeral was to begin going back to church. That was six years ago and with the help, guidance, and support of her minister and other people who attended her parish, she began going to Alcoholics Anonymous and she also got drug and alcohol rehabilitation at the local drug and alcohol treatment center. Alice told Jesse that in spite of a handful of rough moments, she is finally on the path to long lasting recovery and feeling a sense of joy and happiness for the first time since she became an adult. When Jesse accepted Alice’s invitation to attend her parish she was pleasantly surprised. After going to about six or seven church services, for the first time since he was twenty-one years old, Jesse started thinking that maybe there was hope for him and that he could at last address his alcohol and drug issues and start living a more productive and healthy life.
